In the last installation of our long interview series with popular senior couple bonpon511, we shift from fashion and Instagram to their marriage. Their partnership is the focus of many comments on their photos – “couple goals” “ideal relationship” “best couple” etc…

And their photos are more than just cute fashion. There is an air of calm happiness that reflects that couples long-term relationship. The arm linking and hand holding bring a smile to those who look at their photos.

In the last installment of our interview, we look into the secrets behind the happy aura of this now world famous couple, and hear their love story from the beginning.

− How did you two first meet?

bon: We first meet in college. We both went to an art school in Tokyo.
pon: I was in the college of the arts, and he was in the college of design. We first got to know each other when we were paired together to work for the school festival.
bon: It’s such a cliche, but it’s true.

− What did you two think of each other at first?

pon: bon was always quite reserved, quiet and calm person.
bon: I’ve always been like this. Like an old person from when I was young. [laughs]
pon: He had this calmness about him – even from back then. He had something I didn’t have in myself.
bon: Now that I think about it, we haven’t really changed that much from back then.

− Are you both originally from Akita?

pon: No, I was born and raised in Chiba.
bon: I am from Akita. But we only met when we both happened to attend the same college in Tokyo.
pon: We first came to Akita as a couple after we got married, and before we had our daughter. We decided to move back there to raise a family.
bon: I was the eldest male in my family, so we went back to my family’s house. My mom was living alone at that point, so it seemed like a good time to move back – especially with the new baby on the way.
